NDPC, UNIDO Explore Partnership to Advance Ghanaโ€™s Industrial Development Agenda

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) on Monday, 5 October 2026, paid a courtesy call on the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) to explore areas of collaboration towards advancing Ghana’s industrial development agenda.

UNIDO Country Representative in Ghana, Dr Emmanuel Kalenzi, said the visit was aimed at strengthening UNIDO’s relationship with NDPC and gaining a deeper understanding of the Commission’s role in Ghana’s development planning process. He identified NDPC as a key national partner and said UNIDO was interested in ensuring that its interventions were aligned with Ghana’s national priorities and development frameworks.

He outlined plans to develop a new five-year Programme for Country Partnership (PCP), expected to commence in 2027, as a framework for UNIDO’s interventions in Ghana. The programme will be developed through consultations with key national institutions, with proposed areas of focus including agro-industrial value chains and industrial parks, support for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and job creation, investment promotion and trade, industrial policy and skills development, as well as the circular economy, renewable energy and energy efficiency.

In response, Director-General of NDPC, Dr Audrey Smock Amoah, welcomed the initiative and expressed the Commission’s readiness to support the development of the programme. She noted that the proposed areas of collaboration aligned with Ghana’s current development priorities, particularly the 2026–2029 policy framework and the broader agenda of creating jobs, ensuring accountability and promoting shared prosperity.

She also highlighted NDPC’s role in coordinating national development planning and ensuring that plans developed by sector institutions, regions and districts are aligned with the national policy framework.

Dr Amoah further emphasised the importance of mutual learning and institutional capacity building and assured the UNIDO team that the Commission would designate a focal person to support the process and facilitate engagement with relevant technical teams.
