NDPC organizes Orientation Workshop on 2026-2029 Planning Guidelines
The National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) successfully concluded a two-day orientation workshop aimed at familiarizing stakeholders with the 2026-2029 Planning Guidelines. The event took place from February 11 to 12, 2025, in Accra and gathered representatives from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), Regional Coordinating Councils (RCCs), and Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs).
The workshop's primary objective was to ensure that national, sectoral, and district development plans align with Ghana’s long-term development agenda, as mandated by the National Development Planning (System) Act 1994 and the National Development Planning (System) Regulation 2016. With collaborative efforts from key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Finance and the Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority, the NDPC has finalized comprehensive guidelines for the preparation of the 2026-2029 Medium Term Development Plans (MTDPs).
In an address address, Dr. Felix Addo-Yobo, Director of the Development Policy Division, emphasized the importance of continuous collaboration among government entities to refine planning efforts. "The quality of planning today determines the success of Ghana’s development agenda tomorrow," he stated. He urged stakeholders to focus on economic growth, gender equality, social protection, and the recognition of unpaid care work in their development strategies.
Mrs. Victoria Benson, representing the Minister of Finance, commended the NDPC for developing a structured framework that aligns national policies with global commitments such as Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She reiterated the Ministry's commitment to ensuring the financial sustainability of development plans and highlighted the importance of resource mobilization from both internal and external sources.
Participants actively engaged in discussions, raising concerns about funding constraints, data availability, and capacity gaps at the district level. In response, the NDPC assured attendees of ongoing technical support and capacity-building initiatives to address these challenges.
The workshop concluded with a reaffirmation of commitment from all participants, highlighting the essential role of collaborative efforts among government institutions, development partners, and private sector actors in achieving Ghana’s inclusive and sustainable development goals.
