National Development Planning Commission
The National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) will introduce a digital system to monitor government performance in real time, enabling citizens to track progress on projects and policies.
Speaking at the inauguration of members of the NDPC by HE John Dramani Mahama at the Jubilee House on May 20, 2025, Dr. Nii Moi Thompson said the move aims to make annual progress reports more accessible to the public.
"Regrettably, these reports have remained obscure,
"We will change that by digitising the process and giving Ghanaians the chance to conduct 'civic auditing'—monitoring government performance in real or near-real time,” he said.
The initiative seeks to enhance transparency by allowing citizens, civil society groups, and the media to assess how effectively government programs are being implemented.
The NDPC, mandated to evaluate state policies, has traditionally produced annual assessments with limited public engagement.
The new system is expected to provide clearer insights into project delays, budget allocations, and sectoral performance.
Dr. Thompson stressed that the digitisation would align with broader efforts to improve governance and accountability.
The NDPC’s plan follows growing calls for greater openness in tracking national development projects.
If successful, it could set a precedent for other African nations exploring similar accountability measures.
The 37 Member-Commission chaired by Dr. Nii Moi Thompson has 8 dedicated sub-committees focusing on areas like the economy, transport, energy, and social development,
