NDPC commences Preparation of Next Medium-Term National Development Policy Framework

The National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) has convened a series of inception meetings with key stakeholders from government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to initiate the process of developing next Medium-Term National Development Policy Framework (MTNDPF) for the period 2026-2029.
The meetings, held from July 30th to August 1st in Accra, brought together representatives from the Cross-Sectoral Planning Groups (CSPGs) covering areas such as economic development, social development, emergency planning and COVID-19 response, governance, environment, infrastructure and human settlement, as well as implementation, coordination, monitoring, and evaluation.
According to Prof. George Gyan-Baffour, the Chairman of NDPC, the upcoming MTNDPF will be the first in a series of development frameworks aimed at operationalizing Ghana's long-term Vision 2057, which was launched by the Commission in May this year.
"The preparation of the MTNDPF 2026-2029 is significant as it begins the journey towards operationalizing Ghana's Vision 2057," said Prof. Gyan-Baffour. "This MTNDPF will serve as Ghana's development blueprint and will form the basis for the preparation of sector and district development plans, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation over the next four years."
Mrs. Alice Amekudzi, the Director of the Development Policy and Planning Division, NDPC, emphasized the importance of consensus-building, ownership, and coherence in the MTNDPF preparation process, underscoring the Commission's mandate under the National Development Planning Commission Act.
The inception meetings included a presentation on a strategic framework for achieving sustainable growth, prosperity, and equal opportunity for all citizens, as well as the alignment of the MTNDPF with the long-term goals set out in Vision 2057. Participants also discussed the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders in the preparation process and were introduced to assessment tools and methodologies for evaluating the effectiveness and impact of the MTNDPF.
Moving forward, the NDPC would continue further engagements with stakeholders to ensure a participatory and consultative approach in finalizing the MTNDPF 2026-2029.
